What is Quality Score?

Quality Score is a metric that influences ad rank and cost per click of ads. A higher quality score means better your ads will perform. A good quality score can lead to better ad rank and higher clickthrough rates. Higher CTR reduces CPC – cost per click of campaigns.

Google determines quality score by three factors: expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance, and landing page experience.

What is Single Keyword Ad Group Strategy?

Single Keyword Ad Groups are specific ad groups for each keyword. After keyword research, we need to categorize keywords and create specific ad groups and ads for each one of them.

Why You Should Use “Single Keyword Ad Group” Strategy in Your Google Ads Campaigns?

Due to the demand for relevance between ads and target audience, Google wants our ad copies, extensions, landing page to be exactly what the audience looking for. Google Ads campaign structure allows digital marketers to plan and create more relevant ads for searchers.

Let’s assume you have a e-commerce website that sells modern furniture and planning to create sofa ads for home decoration web site. Which one of these ads would get a higher CTR (click-through-rate)?

The second one looks more fit to the searcher, doesn’t it? For this reason, that second ad will get more clicks and conversions! More click means better Quality Score and lower CPC (cost-per-click).

How to Apply a “Single Keyword Ad Group” Strategy in Your Google Ads Campaigns?

Find Your Best Performing Keywords

First of all, every digital marketer must have done keyword research, before publishing a campaign. Find your best keywords that are getting the most impressions and clicks. You can use the Search Terms section in Google Ads and plenty of keyword research tools. I will share my keyword research tips and tools in my future blog posts.

Categorize the Keywords

Categorizing the keywords is the key step of this strategy because we are going to group each keyword (or long-tail keywords that contain this keyword) into a single ad group. For example: If we own an e-commerce website that sells different kinds of shoes, we need to create new ad groups for each shoe category:

Example keywords in “Sneakers” ad group:

sneakers
nike sneakers
adidas sneakers
sneaker for running
sneaker shop
sneaker prices
sneaker brands

Write Specific Ads for Each Ad Group

We have done keyword researching and categorizing them into ad groups. The next step is, creating ads for ad groups. In this step, digital marketers should focus on writing a good ad copy that converts. Every element of the Quality Score metric should be considered. That means the ad should be relevant to the searcher’s expectations and landing page:

Remember! Always keep continuing to testing your ad copies. Because, if you don’t have copywriting skills, your ad copies will be poor. If an ad still gets lower CTR, you need to review your ad copy and try to write a better one.

In conclusion, single keyword ad groups are an effective method for increasing both your ad relevance and CTR, which are two of the most important factors in the Quality Score of the Google Ads algorithm.
